A Vein Of Insanity

The diseases of the mind are more destructive than those of the body (Cicero)

Paul wrote to the Corinthians and said, "Casting down imaginations [arguments] and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ." Somewhere we have lost the idea that we are no longer capable of managing our emotions and controlling the thoughts that enter our mind. Although it is true that we are not responsible for every thing that enters our mind, but we are responsible for what do with everything thing that we think.

Why do we have bad thoughts? And why do we think about things we don't want to think about? We can thank Adam and Eve for that scar. Humanity inherited a corrupt nature from them. Sin stained the heart of our fore parents. That stain was permanent. They passed it on to the entire of the human race. This explains the vein of insanity running through our lives. Humanity is on a collision course with self-destruction. Christian Nevell Bovee spoke the truth, It is the nature of thought to find its way into action." Violence and perversion have become a form of entertainment in today's world-thanks to our nature. Violence and perversion find its way into the places where we live. W.R. Inge said, "The soul is dyed the color of its leisure."

What is our hope? Norman Vincent Peale presents this idea, "Change your thoughts and you change your world." It all begins right between our ears. Marcus Aurelius put it this way, "Our life is what our thoughts make it." O.K. let's change the way we think. If we are to successfully change the way we think we must deal with our corrupt nature. Jesus said in John 3:3, "Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." "If anyone is in Christ," the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "he is a new creation; old things [thoughts] have passed away; all things [thoughts] have become new." When we accept Jesus as our Savior the Holy Spirit enters our heart and we are born anew by the power of God. Our thoughts, words and actions are affected by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22). It is impossible for us to make choices in many areas of our lives, but we can manage our emotions and control the thoughts that enter our mind and disarm the vein of insanity inside us.
